The word ‘pain’ is widely used to describe a large range of body aches and hurts. Pain is
one of the body’s most important protective response mechanisms. Just like shivering
and sweating are natural temperature regulating responses to cold and heat, so pain
can act as a warning, guarding against further damage to the body
When tissue is damaged chemicals known as prostaglandins are released at the site of
injury causing:
- Pain through increasing the sensitivity of the pain receptors
- Reddening, swelling and warmth in the painful area.
Diclofenac works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins and so helps to manage pain and swelling.
